KUCHING: From graceful formations to spirited routines, Sarawak’s rising gymnastics talents will take the spotlight at the Sarawak AGG Inter-School Competition 2025, bringing together school teams from across Sarawak and Sabah.

Organised by the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA) in collaboration with the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA), the much-anticipated state-level competition will be held at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Hall, here on Aug 16.

In a statement issued by SAGGA today (Aug 11), the Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) is a fast-growing sport that emphasises harmonious, rhythmic, and expressive group movement.

“Unlike traditional gymnastics, AGG focuses on the flow and artistic expression of the entire team rather than individual acrobatics.

“The sport fosters teamwork, creativity and physical fitness, making it especially popular among youth and school programmes,” it added.

The event will be graced by guest of honour Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang and State Education Department assistant director Grace Sim Kai Luan.

Also in attendance will be national sports icon, MAGGA president Datuk’l Abdul Malek Noor, and MAGGA secretary general Sarah Sarraj.

The competition will feature school teams performing the official School Program (Category B) compulsory routines in U10, U12, and U18 age groups.

“This platform provides a vital opportunity for Sarawakian children to demonstrate their talent, hardwork and team spirit.

“The MAGGA School Program as the gateway for discovering and nurturing AGG talent in Malaysia. In Sarawak, it’s thriving — with dedicated teachers, judges, coaches, and five schools supporting 150 young gymnasts.

“This solid foundation has enabled our athletes to progress into national and even international AGG pathways. The Sarawak AGG Inter-School Competition 2025 proudly showcases their skills, spirit, and journey from grassroots to greatness,” it added.
