KUCHING: Sarawak’s 213-member contingent will head to Selangor next week to compete in the Sukan Bekalan Air Se-Malaysia (SBAM) 2025, a biennial sporting event uniting water supply operators from across the nation.

Representing the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak and Sarawak Water Sdn. Bhd., the team will compete in all 13 sports – football, futsal, badminton, netball, volleyball, bowling, darts, carrom, sepak takraw, table tennis, tug of war, footgolf and golf.

Flagging off the contingent at Menara LCDA today, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi praised the athletes’ commitment and preparation under the leadership of JBALB Director, Awang Mohamad Fadillah Awang Redzuan.

“This event is more than just a competition, it is a platform to strengthen camaraderie, enhance cooperation between states, and exchange best practices to strengthen the water supply sector nationwide,” he said.

Julaihi reminded athletes to carry themselves with dignity, professionalism, and the spirit of ‘Encang Sarawak Encang’ both on and off the field.

“Every drop of sweat shed is not just for victory, but a symbol of our dedication and love for Sarawak.

“The flag you carry represents the pride and honour of our people,” he stressed.

He also encouraged the team to maintain discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

“As in sports, success in the water supply industry depends on strategic planning, team effort, and the ability to withstand challenges,” he said.

The SBAM Selangor 2025 will open on August 21, at Arena MBSJ, Subang Jaya, officiated by HRH Tengku Amir Shah, Crown Prince of Selangor, and will close on August 25, at Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam, with Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari presiding.
