KUCHING: Preparations for the 6th International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 have entered their final phase.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), Datuk Dr Hazland Abg Hipni, chaired the last steering committee meeting on Tuesday (July 1) to ensure the seamless execution of the landmark event.

The IEW 2025, themed “From Sarawak to the World: Journey to Clean Energy Leadership,” will take place from July 15 to 17 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability and organised by Informa Markets in association with Oil & Gas Asia (OGA), aiming to position Sarawak as a regional hub for clean energy transformation.

The summit is expected to attract over 6,500 participants from 25 countries, including 400 companies from 30 countries, as well as 500 local and international summit delegates.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, will officiate the event, underscoring the Sarawak government’s commitment to renewable energy, decarbonisation and sustainable development.

Dr Hazland highlighted that IEW 2025 is more than an exhibition, describing it as a strategic platform for energy dialogue, global collaboration and knowledge exchange.

He urged stakeholders to maintain strong coordination to deliver a world-class event that reflects Sarawak’s aspirations in the global energy sector.

The event will feature a series of high-impact programmes, including the IEW Summit 2025, a two-day thought leadership forum bringing together international speakers, energy ministers, CEOs, and key decision-makers.

Discussions will centre on best practices and innovative pathways in hydrogen development, carbon capture and green infrastructure.

Notable speakers include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Dr Hazland; and senior leaders from Petros, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Siemens Energy and Schneider Electric, among others.

Other key highlights of IEW 2025 include Technical Talks, which offer insights into cutting-edge energy technologies and innovations; IEW Future Horizon by TalentCorp, aimed at inspiring students and graduates to pursue careers in the energy sector through expert-led sessions; and a Networking Golf Tournament by MOGSC, providing opportunities for informal engagement among industry professionals.

The IEW 2025 is projected to generate approximately USD 2.5 billion in potential business opportunities and drive new investments into Sarawak’s energy sector with more than 20 curated sessions on sustainability to be held, emphasising environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and regional cooperation in shaping the energy systems of the future.
