KUCHING: The Sarawak government has agreed to allocate another RM30 million to assist students to repay their education loan with the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the amount is in addition to the RM30 million that was previously allocated.
“Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni (when presenting his motion) has touched on increasing the assistance to assist PTPTN loan takers.
“Previously, we have allocated RM30 million, so today, we will add on another RM30 million,” he said in his winding up speech during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 15th Triennial Delegates Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday (June 19).
In March last year, Yayasan Sarawak signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PTPTN.
Through the MoU, Yayasan Sarawak will use the state government’s allocation to provide incentive to Sarawakian students who have repaid at least 30 percent of their PTPTN loan in order to settle 30 percent of the balance of the loan taken.
