KUCHING: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) showcased several captivating animations celebrating Sarawak’s cultural heritage and creative talents at the World We Weave Festival, held from Dec 13 to 15 at the State Library (Pustaka), here.
Collaborating with local creative partners and production houses, SDEC presented three remarkable animations: Borih: The Bidayuh Paddy Priestess, The Pillar of Strength, and Baram Bunch: Story Hunters.
“These animations exemplify the incredible talent and creativity that Sarawak has to offer. Through strategic partnerships and programmes like the Sarawak Animation Incubation Programme, we are creating opportunities for local creators to tell unique stories rooted in our culture while embracing the future of digital content creation,” said Hazwan Razak, SDEC general manager (Innovation and Entrepreneurship).
The festival highlighted SDEC’s commitment to promote Sarawak’s digital economy while fostering local talent in digital creativity and innovation through initiatives like the Sarawak Animation Incubation Programme.
Borih: The Bidayuh Paddy Priestess, produced by Flystudio and Passionate World Sdn Bhd, tells the moving story of Ngomak, a revered Bidayuh paddy priestess whose life was shaped by love and sacrifice.
Celebrating Bidayuh culture, the production was supported by the Ministry of Communications, MDEC, and the Sarawak Animation Incubation Programme — a joint initiative by Ventura Interactive, SDEC, and Sarawak Digital.
The Pillar of Strength, on the other hand, created by Creatvtoon Studio, portrays resilience and unity through the tale of Rentap, the legendary Iban-Dayak warrior.
Supported by local organisations and produced using Toon Boom animation software, the story underscores the enduring spirit of Sarawak’s heritage.
Baram Bunch: Story Hunters, meanwhile, a collaborative effort by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), TVS, and Swinburne University, follows four children as they collect stories from Sarawak’s interiors, showcasing the state’s rich storytelling traditions.
These animations reflects Sarawak’s flourishing creative industry, blending tradition with digital innovation to share its cultural legacy with a global audience.
