KUCHING: The Sarawak government has appointed three individuals to key roles in the state’s Ombudsman structure, reinforcing its commitment to good governance.
TVS reported that Alexander Unya Ambon was appointed Deputy Chief Ombudsman effective July 1 this year.
Albert Tang Yew Liong and Toieyah Tioh were appointed as Ombudsmen effective June 22 and 23, 2025, respectively.
All three took their oath of office at 10am at the Kuching High Court before Sabah and Sarawak Chief Judge Datuk Azizah Nawawi today (Aug 4).
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya was also present.
The appointments were made under Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, which requires all appointees to be sworn in before officially assuming their duties.
For record, Sarawak is the first state in Malaysia to enforce an Ombudsman system, following the passing of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 on November 20 last year.
