KUCHING: The Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) will mark its 40th anniversary with a landmark exhibition titled ‘Heritage Reloaded’, celebrating four decades of artistic innovation and cultural preservation.
The month-long exhibition at Wesberly Galleria, Kuching, will be officially launched on Oct 17 at 7:30 pm, with visiting hours from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm daily. Admission is free.
It will feature a wide range of paintings, installations, mixed media works and digital art that reinterpret Sarawak’s cultural identity for a new generation.
SAS president Sebastian Jong said that ‘Heritage Reloaded’ reflects how heritage continues to evolve through creativity and reinterpretation.
“It is more than a celebration of art; it is a reflection of who we are and where we come from.
“Through creative reinterpretation, we are not just preserving Sarawak’s cultural identity; we are giving it new life and meaning for future generations,” he said in a statement.
The exhibition will include several programmes, such as a book launch marking SAS’s 40th anniversary, a cake-cutting ceremony, curatorial walkthroughs and artist talks by curator Dr Mohamad Faizwan Mat, as well as community workshops and guided tours.
The 40th Annual Art Exhibition also aims to promote cross-cultural dialogue and showcase how local artists blend traditional motifs and indigenous narratives with modern artistic approaches.
SAS expressed appreciation to Majlis Seni Sarawak for its grant support, which made the exhibition possible.
Heritage Reloaded is expected to draw both art enthusiasts and the general public, offering a space to experience Sarawak’s evolving creative landscape.
