SERIAN: The Dual Language Programme Sarawak Assessment Test (UP-DLP) for Primary Six students, scheduled for October 15 and 16, will be used to gauge how well students have grasped Mathematics and Science taught in English over the past six years.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said this is the state’s first formal step in evaluating the competency of students under the DLP initiative.
“At least from there, we’ll know how good our students are. That is the most important,” he told reporters after officiating the PETRONAS Uplifting Lives Gawai 2025 programme at Kampung Tarat Melawi today.
The Tarat Assemblyman noted that the test will be limited to Primary Six students this year, with plans to expand it to Form Three students within the next three years.
The state had previously announced the Cambridge-standard UP-DLP as part of its broader strategy to improve English proficiency as well as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning outcomes in Sarawak schools.
In May, during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Sagah said the initiative is a collaborative effort involving his ministry, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), Swinburne Innovation Malaysia (SWIM), and state-owned universities.
He added that all examination papers will be thoroughly vetted and verified by Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUP&A), ensuring that the assessments meet international standards.
