KUCHING: Sarawak’s athletes are uniting under one banner and one spirit as they set their sights on conquering the Borneo Games 2025.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the ongoing training camp is more than just final preparations — it is about forging a single identity.
“This camp is about bringing all our athletes together as one team, one family.
“We want them to strengthen bonds, support each other, and carry the Sarawak spirit with pride,” he said.
He likened the atmosphere to a family reunion, where everyone contributes and works together towards a common goal.
“When we come together like during Gawai or Hari Raya, we celebrate as one. Here, our athletes will fight as one for the biggest celebration, victory at the Borneo Games,” he told reporters after addressing the state contingent during a pep talk at the Sarawak Sports Village today.
With over 200 athletes and officials forming the Sarawak contingent, Rentap said the state is determined to showcase both skill and unity.
“Every night we have motivation sessions, programmes, and training to build team spirit. We want our athletes to step onto the field not as individuals, but as Sarawak’s warriors,” he added.
The Borneo Games, which begin on Sept 24, will bring together contingents from Sabah, Labuan, Kalimantan, and Brunei, with Sarawak aiming to make a strong statement as host and contender.
“The majority of the athletes have undergone training and selection over the past months.
“These are the athletes that have been chosen to represent Sarawak,” said Rentap.
He also hoped that beyond competition and medals, the athletes would forge and strengthen friendships among the participating contingents.
“We hope our athletes will celebrate the bonds formed as they gather here from different parts of Sarawak.
“Regardless of race or religion, what matters is that we are one — we are ‘Anak Sarawak’, Sarawak’s athletes, Sarawak’s warriors and we will be champions of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025,” he said.
