SIBU: The Sarawak Australian Graduates Association (SAGA) Central Region will organise its inaugural SAGA 2026 Corporate Meeting from September 7-8 at RH Hotel here.

The objective of the event is to provide a platform to strengthen alumni networks, develop professional leadership, and foster collaboration in education, business and community development.

SAGA Central Region’s Chairman, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, said the two-day event, supported by the Sarawak Business Events Fund, is expected to attract Australian university graduates from across Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and overseas.

He described the event as another milestone for SAGA Central Region, which will mark its 21st anniversary since its establishment on April 6, 2005.

According to Lau, SAGA is more than an alumni association, serving as a platform to promote unity, strengthen professional networks, encourage educational excellence, and cultivate a spirit of giving back through social, educational and welfare initiatives.

“The meeting will not only bring together alumni but also serve as a platform to build strategic partnerships, enhance leadership skills, and nurture graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the development of society and Sarawak,” he said at a press conference recently.

He also informed that the RM400 participation package includes leadership training, a cultural dinner, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, a T-shirt, kit bag, lanyard, notebook, pen, souvenirs, individual and group commemorative photographs, as well as an electronic certificate.

Lau added that SAGA welcomes corporate organisations to participate as strategic partners to strengthen business networks and support the association’s future programmes.

Meanwhile, organising chairwoman, Eta Ting, said the corporate meeting will revolve around the theme of the ‘5Cs’ – Connection, Community, Confidence, Celebration and Culture.

She added the programme is aimed at three groups of participants, namely Sarawakians who graduated from universities in Australia or Australian university campuses in Malaysia, Malaysians including Sarawakians currently working or residing in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, as well as international participants.

According to Ting, the first day will begin with the said meeting and the election of a new committee, followed by a four-hour professional networking session and leadership training designed to build participants’ confidence, influence and leadership capabilities in both the workplace and the community.

In the evening, participants will attend the Australian Gala featuring local and international cuisine and cultural performances.

The event is expected to be attended by the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and other distinguished guests.

The second day will feature a cultural tour, taking participants to longhouses, museums, night markets and the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) to showcase Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and tourism attractions.

Ting expressed hope that the inaugural corporate meeting would become a recurring platform to strengthen alumni ties, expand cross-sector collaboration, and reinforce Sarawak’s position as a preferred destination for corporate events and international conferences.
