KUCHING: The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) has officially had its registration suspension lifted, paving the way for renewed growth and reform under a united leadership.

The suspension was formally lifted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through a letter dated June 30, 2025, signed by its Minister, Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan.

The official letter of release was handed over in a ceremony at the SBA Badminton Hall here earlier today, marking the symbolic start of a new era for the association.

The letter was presented by Chairman of the SBA Ad Hoc Committee, Azizul Annuar Adenan, to SBA Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, who represented the association.

Also present were Sports Commissioner of Malaysia, Suhardi Alias, representatives from the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), and SBA’s executive committee members.

SBA’s registration was suspended on January 3, 2025, and later reviewed after the ministry confirmed that all recommended administrative reforms and remedial actions had been successfully carried out by the Ad Hoc Committee.

In his address, Wan Khalik expressed appreciation to the Ministry, the Sports Commissioner’s Office (PJS), and Azizul for the trust placed in SBA’s new management team.

“This ceremony is not just the closing of a chapter, but the beginning of a new era for badminton development in Sarawak.

“Under the leadership of our new President, Datuk Seri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, SBA is committed to reviving excellence in the sport through stronger governance, deeper grassroots engagement, and strategic collaboration with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and relevant agencies,” he said.

With its registration status restored, SBA is now set to roll out several key initiatives, including youth talent development programmes, the organisation of national and internal tournaments, and strengthened collaboration with regional badminton divisions across Sarawak.

He added that SBA will also work closely with KBS and MYSED, through the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), to develop a comprehensive state-level badminton roadmap.

“SBA reaffirms its commitment to uphold integrity, transparency and professionalism as the foundation of its governance and operations,” Wan Khalik said.
