SEBUYAU: The Sarawak government remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access to clean and reliable water supply here.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that his recent working visit to Kampung Sago, Kampung Tebelu, and Kampung Ensika was part of the state’s broader initiative to ensure that rural communities enjoy continuous access to quality treated water.

“This water supply project is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all citizens, especially those in rural areas, benefit from improved basic infrastructure.

“Various water supply projects are currently being implemented, or will soon be rolled out, by the Sarawak government in the Sebuyau District through the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, with the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak acting as the implementing agency. These projects are designed to upgrade the existing water system and meet growing demand in the area,” he said during his visit recently to inspect several ongoing water supply projects across the district.

During the visit, Julaihi, who is also the Sebuyau assemblyman, was briefed on the progress of three major water infrastructure projects currently underway in the area.

One of them is the 6.2-kilometre Water Pipe Upgrade Project to Kampung Sago, which is currently in the construction phase with an estimated cost of RM1.7 million.

Another is the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) for Kampung Ensika, which is in the design phase and expected to be tendered in the first quarter of 2026. This RM8.5 million project includes the installation of new pipelines, a booster pump station, and an elevated water tank.

In addition, the 13.5-kilometre Pipeline Replacement Project from the Tebelu Elevated Tank to Kampung Tebelu and Kampung Bajong is also under construction, with an estimated cost of RM4.7 million.

He stressed that all ongoing projects will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and to effectively resolve water supply issues faced by residents in a holistic and sustainable manner.
