SELANGOR: The Sarawak sporting fraternity has lost one of its longest-serving leaders following the passing of Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Dr Rahman Lariwoo at age 67 on Friday (Aug 15).
The news was confirmed by his younger sister, Suraya Lariwoo, when contacted by Sarawak Tribune earlier today.
According to Suraya, Rahman collapsed suddenly at his home before being rushed by his children to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), where he was pronounced dead at 12.29pm.
“We were all shocked when his children informed us of the news.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our eldest brother,” she said.
Rahman, the elder brother of Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, had served as SABA president and was widely respected for his contributions to the development of boxing in the state.
Under his leadership, Sarawak boxing continued to produce national-level talents, with the state recently enjoying a successful outing at the 5th Sarawak International Open Boxing Championship 2026, winning seven gold, three silver and one bronze medal as preparations gathered pace for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026.
Further details on funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
