KUCHING: Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economic development and investment.

This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by Brunei Darussalam’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Pehin Datuk Pekerma Jaya Yusof, to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Wisma Sumber Alam here on Monday.

Awang Tengah, who also serves as Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), said the meeting provided an avenue for both parties to explore strategic collaboration that would bring mutual benefit to the two neighbouring regions.

“The discussion centred around strengthening existing ties and identifying new opportunities in sectors of mutual interest, especially in trade and investment,” he said.

Accompanying Erywan were Permanent Secretary of Brunei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pengiran Datuk Paduka Shazainah Pengiran Datuk Paduka Shariffudin, and senior ministry officials Syamin Nabilah Daud and Dayangku Nor Zaidah Pengiran Shahminan.

Also in the delegation was the Consul General of Brunei Darussalam in Sarawak, Sheikh Abdul Mahdani Datuk Paduka Sheikh Abdul Gani.

The courtesy visit marks a continued effort between both Sarawak and Brunei to deepen diplomatic relations and forge sustainable partnerships across various sectors.

Erywan arrived in Kuching on Sunday night.
