KUCHING: Sarawak and Canada are looking to enhance cooperation, particularly in the area of sustainable energy development, building on shared priorities and resource strengths.

High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia Jodi Robinson said both parties share a common vision for sustainable energy and are now exploring strategic avenues to enhance bilateral collaboration.

“This visit is aimed at strengthening ties between Canada and Sarawak. We both have rich natural resources and a strong commitment to sustainable development.

“This meeting serves as an introduction to better understand the Premier’s priorities and explore how Canada can further engage with Sarawak as well as with our broader network of partners,” she told the media following a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Robinson added that Abang Johari welcomed the idea of future collaboration, particularly the potential involvement of Canadian companies in Sarawak’s key focus areas.

On the mining sector, she noted that while there are currently no new developments, Canada’s vast experience, especially in provinces like British Columbia, positions it well for potential partnerships.

“There are no updates for now, but certainly, Canada has extensive expertise in mining.

“I believe there’s plenty of room for cooperation in this sector,” she added.
