KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded exports worth RM3.59 billion to Brunei Darussalam last year, marking a significant 23.8 per cent increase in trade value from the previous year.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the trade value between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam reached RM3.76 billion in 2023 compared to RM3.04 billion in 2022.
As such, he expressed hope for enhanced cooperation across various levels between Sarawak and its neighbouring country, considering the substantial increase in trade value between the two regions.
“This is evident from last year’s 23.8 per cent increase in trade value between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, totalling RM3.76 billion compared to RM3.04 billion in 2022,” he said.
He said this after receiving a visit from the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam Dato Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin at his office at Wisma Sumber Alam here on today.
Awang Tengah, who also serves as Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) further highlighted that Sarawak’s exports to Brunei primarily consisted of oil, plastic goods, and machinery.
