KUCHING: Sarawak has reinforced its regional leadership in climate action and green economic transformation with the launch of the Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2025 and the unveiling of the state’s inaugural Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at both milestones at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today, where over 300 delegates from across Asia and beyond gathered to exchange insights and strategies on accelerating the low-carbon transition.

Hosted by the Ministry for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), and organised by Argus Media with support from Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), ACC 2025 brings together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and sustainability experts to explore innovations in carbon management, emissions reduction, and green technology.

Abang Johari stated that the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030 is a pivotal moment for the state’s development trajectory.

“This comprehensive document, meticulously crafted by our ministry, serves as our strategic roadmap for Sarawak’s profound transition to a green economy,” he said.

The blueprint outlines 10 strategic thrusts, 48 strategies, and 111 actionable plans, covering areas such as renewable energy expansion, carbon capture and storage (CCS), forest and land conservation, green investments, circular economy practices, and workforce development.

“It is designed to integrate green principles into the very fabric of our society and economy,” the Premier said.

“This is not just Sarawak’s carbon journey. This is our contribution to the planet and our future generations.”

Looking ahead to Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, Abang Johari reaffirmed Sarawak’s readiness to play a central role in the region’s green growth agenda.

“With our advanced renewable energy capacity and pioneering carbon management frameworks, Sarawak is well-positioned to demonstrate how ASEAN can pursue sustainable development while addressing climate change,” he stated.

He also extended an open invitation to international partners and investors, emphasising that Sarawak welcomes both business opportunities and collaborative efforts in its green journey.

“Together, we can unlock the immense potential of a green economy and show the world that economic progress, climate action, and environmental stewardship must go hand in hand,” he said.
