SARATOK: A traditional slingshot game once closely associated with childhood memories has evolved into a competitive modern recreational sport.
Recognising its growing popularity, Lorong Udak Slingshot Saratok will organise the Lorong Udak Slingshot Tournament 2.0 – Sarawak Closed 2026 on August 16 at the LAKIS Saratok Futsal Court, next to Masjid Jamek Saratok, beginning at 8:00 am.
Carrying the organisers’ slogan, ‘Sapo nye cun nye win’, the tournament promises to be an exciting platform for slingshot enthusiasts across Sarawak to showcase their precision and skills.
The tournament will be contested for the YM Cup Professor Dato’ Paduka Seri Is. Dr Tunza Mohd Riduan, who serves on the Malaysian Government’s Political, Economic and Social Advisory Panel.
According to the organisers, the tournament is designed not only to test participants’ accuracy, concentration, mental resilience and physical control, but also to strengthen family ties and promote unity among people of all ages, races and religions.
The event also aims to contribute to human capital development by fostering teamwork and mutual trust.
The tournament features two categories contested over a shooting distance of 10 metres.
The Sarawak Closed Individual category carries an entry fee of RM35.
The champion will receive RM1,000 and a trophy, while prizes will also be awarded to competitors finishing up to 20th place.
The Sharpshooter Individual category, with an entry fee of RM10, requires participants to hit spinner targets measuring between 2cm and 6cm using 10 mudballs.
The winner will receive RM150 and a trophy.
To ensure fair play and safety, participants are prohibited from using their own ammunition.
Only 8-mm mudballs supplied by the organisers are permitted.
The use of steel ball-bearings, trigger-activated slingshots and slingshots fitted with laser equipment is strictly forbidden.
Participants are also required to dress appropriately and wear shoes while competing. They are responsible for their own safety throughout the tournament.
