KUCHING: The state is committed to equipping its youth with training in technology-related fields, says Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah.
He said that in this context, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a central role in developing a highly skilled workforce, with training in technology-related fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, industrial automation, and green technology.
“Polytechnics and Community Colleges (POLYCC) are among the key institutions directly contributing to producing a future workforce that is relevant, adaptable, and innovative.
“The National TVET Policy 2030 and Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) complement each other in positioning Sarawak as a regional hub for talent development and innovation.
“Through the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the Sarawak government continues to demonstrate its commitment to human capital development by emphasising flexible, responsive, and inclusive TVET programmes aligned with industry needs and future employment landscapes,” he said.
He said this in his speech when officiating at the second session of the 2025 Sarawak Zone Polytechnics and Community Colleges Convocation Ceremony at Dewan Jubli Perak, Politeknik Kuching, here today.
As such, Sagah added it is important to strengthen collaboration between POLYCC, industry, and the Sarawak government to ensure the sustainability of the TVET ecosystem.
“I believe that with the support of MEITD and relevant agencies, we can further empower TVET as a key driver of state and national development towards a knowledge- and innovation-based economy,” he added.
He also urged graduates to improve their English proficiency to enhance employability, particularly when engaging with foreign investors, as English remains the most widely used language in global business.
Today’s session celebrates 428 graduates from Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS), Kolej Komuniti Kuching, Kolej Komuniti Sarikei, Kolej Komuniti Sarikei Sibu Branch, and Kolej Komuniti Miri.
