KUCHING: Sarawak remains a preferred destination for investors from Commonwealth countries, with many parties expressing interest in forming collaborations across various sectors.

This includes sectors such as renewable energy, oil and gas, education, and cybersecurity.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council deputy chairman from the United Kingdom (CWEIC), Lord Hugo Swire, said that the high level of interest from the investment community in Sarawak is the result of the exposure to be provided at the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit in London.

“There are many investors seeking investment opportunities in Sarawak. What is being worked on here is very dynamic, with numerous sectors holding great potential.

“A total of 140 members in the opportunities sector are looking at the potential to collaborate with Sarawak.”

Swire said this during a courtesy visit to Deputy Premier and  International Trade, Industry, and Investment (Mintred) Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, at Wisma Sumber Alam today (Feb 17).

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Petroleum  Sarawak  Berhad (Petros) Darul Hana multifuel station and SMD Semiconductor Sarawak Microelectronics Design to witness the potential and technological developments in the state firsthand.

Also present during the visit were the International Trade, Industry, and Investment of Sarawak Deputy Minister Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Mintred advisor Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais, and Invest Sarawak chief executive officer (CEO) Timothy Ong Wye Em.

For the record, Sarawak is also expected to send a delegation to the United Kingdom in early May to promote the state’s investment capabilities and advantages.
