KUCHING: Sarawak reported the strongest growth among regions in Malaysia in crude palm oil (CPO) production by 4.65 per cent to 439,181 tonnes in August from 419,657 tonnes in July 2026 or an increase by 19,524 tonnes.
In Peninsula Malaysia, CPO output expanded by 25,517 tonnes (2.52%) per cent to 1,039,236 tonnes from 1,013,719 tonnes,
In contrast, Sabah recorded a negative growth as its CPO production volume contracted by 20,138 tonnes (-5.61%) to 339,082 tonnes from 359,220 tonnes month-on-month, according to latest monthly production figures (preliminary) released by Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
Nationwide, Malaysia’s August CPO output rose by 24,903 tonnes (+1.39%) to 1,817,499 tonnes (July:1,792,596 tonnes).
On CPO stocks, all the three regions recorded significant increases, with Sarawak reported single digit jump, whereas Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah all posted double-digit surge.
Month-on-month, Sarawak CPO inventory rose by 30,283 tonnes (8.3%) to 394,993 tonnes (July:364,710 tonnes), Peninsular Malaysia by 120,728 tonnes (17.31%) to 818,113 tonnes (697,385 tonnes) while Sabah by 66,081 tonnes (18.04%) to 432,464 tonnes (366,383 tonnes).
On the stocks of processed palm oil, Sarawak registered an increase of 15,683 tonnes (7.99%) to 211,999 tonnes (196,316 tonnes) whereas Peninsula Malaysia saw growth by 28,233 tonnes (3.87%) to 758,352 tonnes (730,119 tonnes). Sabah recorded drop in inventory by 64,418 tonnes (23.6%) to 208,567 tonnes (2872,985 tonnes),MPOB data shown.
Overall, the total palm oil stocks in Sarawak leapt by 45,966 tonnes (8.19%) to 606,992 tonnes (561,026 tonnes) while Peninsula Malaysia saw bigger increase by 148,961 tonnes (10.44%) to 1,576,465 tonnes (1,427,504 tonnes).In contrast, Sabah only reported slight increase by 1,663 tonnes (0.26%) to 641,031 tonnes (639,368 tonnes).
On palm oil exports month-on-month, Malaysia saw shipments to overseas buyers fell by 104,915 tonnes (-7.5%) to 1,294,664 tonnes (1,399,579 tonnes).
In August, Malaysia expanded the production volume of palm kernel by 8,327 tonnes (1.97%) to 430,599 tonnes (422,272 tonnes) while crude palm kernel oil production hiked by merely 197 tonnes (0.1%) to 199,589 tonnes (199,392 tonnes) and palm kernel cake output climbed by 543 tonnes (0.25%) to 215,847 tonnes (215,304 tonnes).
On inventory, the country’s palm kernel stocks rose by 10,146 tonnes (7.33%) to 148,481 tonnes (138,335 tonnes) whereas the stocks for crude palm kernel oil increased faster by 19,907 tonnes (9.99%) to 219,267 tonnes (199,360 tonnes).
In contrast, Malaysia’s processed palm kernel oil’s stocks plunged by 21,950 tonnes (-15.47%) to 119,933 tonnes (141,883 tonnes) due to a sharp increase in exports by 30,618 tonnes (376.22%) to 112,879 tonnes (82,261 tonnes).
The exports of palm kernel cake grew by 13,130 tonnes (6.45%) to 216,584 tonnes (203,454 tonnes).
While the country recorded a drop in oleochemical exports by 34,031 tonnes (-12.72%) to 233,545 tonnes (267,576 tonnes), exports of biodiesel expanded strongly by 6,495 tonnes (22.59%) to 35,240 tonnes (28,745 tonnes), according to MPOB.
In August, Malaysia imported 49,524 tonnes of processed palm oil (49,566 tonnes) and palm kernel oil of 13,985 tonnes (11,545 tonnes) or up by 2,441 tonnes (21.14%) month-on-month.
