KRAFTANGAN Malaysia reported craft sales totalling RM6.3 million in Sarawak during the first quarter of the year.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the presence of Sarawak craft entrepreneurs at craft-related activities helps to boost sales, enhance visibility, and increase market shares.

“During the first quarter of the year, Sarawak crafts were staged and made their presence at various events in Kuching, Sri Aman and Kuala Lumpur.

“Recently, Sarawak crafts have made waves at the Revelations Biennale Paris 2025.

“The President of the French Republic, His Excellency Emmanuel Macron and The First Lady, Brigette Macron, visited the Sarawak Exhibition booth.

“They were impressed with the Sarawak crafts on display,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Abdul Karim further said under the Sarawak Craft Council (SCC) Industrial Development Initiatives, 53 new craft producers were registered, bringing the total number of registered to 1,300.

“To get more community participation, SCC carried out Craft Community Development programmes in Sri Aman Kapit, Bintulu, Limbang and Lawas,” he said.

He also said the SCC will continue to build up the development of the local craft industry with the aim of increasing the market reach of local craft products in the local, domestic and global markets.

“Sales and promotion continue to be the focus to grow the markets for Sarawak crafts,” he said.
