KUCHING: Sarawak Cricket has no interest in the political matters affecting the Malaysia Cricket Association.

It remains fully focused on its mission to develop and grow the sport actively within Sarawak.

According to Sarawak Cricket Association president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammed, the association prioritises the progress of cricket and does not wish to be drawn into political controversies at the national level.

“I, on behalf of Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA), strongly deny and refute all statements and allegations across all media, particularly any insinuation attempting to involve me as the president, committee members and state government leaders in Malaysia Cricket Association’s (MCA) internal affairs.

“We have done our internal investigation on this matter and we strongly denied all the allegations made.

“I am fully aware of the situation and hope for the best outcome for Malaysia Cricket.

“I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank especially Gordon Chung, the Malaysia Cricket vice president, for his immense contributions and sacrifices for Sarawak Cricket.

“Under his efforts, cricket in Sarawak has seen significant growth and development,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Furthermore, Awang Mahyan said that the Sarawak Cricket Association strongly warns all against any attempt to make allegations and false statement through any type of media that can tarnish the good name of SCA and Sarawak.

For the record, he said the Sarawak state government has demonstrated its full support for the sport, as evidenced by the successful hosting of the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup 2025 at the Borneo Cricket Ground last January.

He added that SCA deeply appreciates this support and will not tolerate any effort to politicise the issue.

“The Sarawak Cricket Association remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting cricket at all levels, and ensuring that the sport continues to thrive in Sarawak without external political interference,” the statement read.
