KUCHING: The 2025 Sarawak Cup Sepak Takraw Championship is set to take place from June 18 to 22 at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium.
Sarawak Sepaktakraw Association (PSS) president Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi said the championship will bring together teams from all 10 divisions to compete across four categories, namely the Men’s Team (3 Regu), Men’s Regu, Youth Regu, and Women’s Regu.
“We received very encouraging responses. Mukah is here, Serian is here and that’s a great encouragement for us to keep moving forward,” he said.
The divisions competing are Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang.
Over RM20,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs for the top three winners in each category.
The tournament is organised by PSS with support from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).
Ismail acknowledged that logistics remain a challenge, particularly for northern teams.
“Sarawak is a large state, and some teams like Limbang had to travel entirely by land. Even teams from Miri and Bintulu faced obstacles, but they managed to overcome them and are expected to arrive tomorrow (June 17),” he said here today (June 16).
He added that this tournament is a key agenda for PSS, initially planned for April but postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
Also present at the ceremony were PSS Deputy President and Tournament Chairman, Nizam Wang, along with PSS executive committee members.
Nizam, who also serves as President of the Samarahan Division Sepaktakraw Association (SDTA), urged fans to come out in full force.
“Admission is free, and we hope the public will fill the stadium and support the athletes,” he said, noting that matches will run daily from 8 am until late evening.
