KUCHING: The 2025 Sarawak Cup Sepak Takraw Championship is set to serve as a scouting ground for future state selection.
The Samarahan Division Sepak Takraw Association (SDTA) president Nizam Wang said the tournament provides an ideal platform to identify top talents for the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) to evaluate and shortlist for state-level training and competitions.

“This is the best platform for us to begin compiling a long list of potential players, which will be submitted to SSC early next year to prepare a stronger state team,” he said.
Nizam who is also Deputy President of the Sarawak Sepaktakraw Association (PSS) and Tournament Committee chairman added that preparations have been smooth and expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the Samarahan division to host one of Sarawak’s most prestigious sepak takraw events.
“Alhamdulillah, everything is going well. The matches will begin daily at 8am and run into the evening.
“The closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at the same venue,” he told a press conference today.
Nizam also noted that the response from participating divisions has been very encouraging.
“Alhamdulillah, the response has been positive. We may also include additional side activities, which will be announced by the PSS President in due course,” he said.
