KUCHING: Sarawakian dancer Dion Das Louis won two silver medals at the Dance World Cup Malaysia Qualifier held at JKKN Sabah, securing qualification for the World Finals in Dublin, Ireland this July.
Dion, the only participant from Sarawak, competed in the Mini Solo National Folklore and Senior Duo Folklore categories.
His solo performance drew inspiration from the legend of Bujang Berani and the spirit of “Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban”.
Meanwhile, in the Duo category, he partnered Sabahan dancer Mohamad Haykal in a performance titled Kanjet Lian Sura, inspired by Orang Ulu mythology.
The performance featured a new warrior-inspired concept, replacing Dion’s previous winged costume style.
The choreography and costume were created by Sabah-based choreographer Brandon Balasius.
The competition was judged by an international panel from Jersey.
