KUCHING: Sarawak dancers delivered a strong showing at the Bailando Open Championship (BOC) 2026 in Johor Bahru, clinching 32 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze medals against regional competitors.
The team from Tyng Dance Academy (TDA) also secured multiple finalist placements across national and international categories.
A major highlight was TDA being crowned Malaysia National Champion in both the Youth and Junior II categories under the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF).
Founder and principal, Chan Tyng Tyng, said the results reflected consistent training and a structured approach to development.
“These results reflect the process behind the performance, consistency in training, clarity in direction, and the willingness of our dancers to grow through every stage of their journey,” he said.
“We are proud to see them represent Sarawak with confidence and continue raising their standards with each experience.”
Among the standout performers was Claudin Tay Jiayen, who dominated the Adult and University Open Solo Latin categories with 10 gold medals and secured a Top 10 finish in the WDSF World Open Solo Latin Female Adult category.
In the youth division, Trisha Yap Tai Qii emerged as the Malaysia National Champion in the MYDF Closed Solo Latin Female Youth category, while also achieving multiple podium finishes and a Top 8 placement at the WDSF World Open level.
Jayda Chang Xu Ern also claimed the national title in the MYDF Closed Solo Latin Female Junior II category and finished in the Top 6 of the WDSF World Open Solo Latin Junior II category.
Young talent Jovanna Goh Yi Xian impressed with 10 gold medals across the Juvenile I and Children categories, while Jovina Wong Xin En secured five gold medals alongside several podium finishes.
Ariella Tang Chen Xin recorded three gold, six silver and one bronze medals, while Chloe Tay contributed two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the newcomer categories.
Bong Ker Chien also gained valuable exposure with multiple placements in the Junior II division.
