KUCHING: A group of five talented dancers from Sarawak is gearing up to represent Malaysia at the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) French Open, taking place in Lyon, from Feb 15-17.

Cordelia Wee, Amy Kho, Eunice Ling, Erin Ung, and Arabelle Leah Pei, will compete in the Junior II, Youth, and Adult Solo Latin categories.

They will be led by their team manager and coach, Cindy Chung Sin Yee, from the Russell, Randell and Cindy Dance Company, based here.

Ahead of their departure on Feb 12, the dancers were presented with the state colours by Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

During the ceremony, he encouraged them to give their best as they step into European competition for the first time.

“These young dancers exemplify the adventurous spirit of Sarawak, and I commend their courage to represent our state on the global stage. They will undoubtedly do Sarawak proud,” said Abdul Karim.

The dancers have previously achieved success in competitions across Asia, including Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

Lim said the team’s next major event will be the Bailando Open Championships in 2025.
