KUCHING: Sarawak’s rising stars in dancesport made a remarkable impression at the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Bailando Open DanceSport Championship held from April 4 to 6 at Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru, clinching podium finishes and earning national recognition.
Among the top performers was Cordelia Wee Li Xin, who delivered a strong showing in the Adult Female Solo Latin category by securing third place in the Malaysia National Ranking and finishing sixth in the prestigious WDSF Open events.
In the Youth Female Solo Latin category, Eunice Ling Chen Xin emerged as a standout by securing third in the national rankings, advancing to the WDSF Open quarter-finals despite a gruelling three-day competition, and delivering an impressive performance in the Bailando Open single dance events with two silver medals and three bronze.

Ren Xuan Yi added to Sarawak’s medal tally, achieving third in the Malaysia National Ranking under the Junior I Standard category.
Sarawak’s contingent also saw commendable performances from its younger dancers, with Junior II Latin duo Erin Ung and Arabelle Leah Pei advancing to the semi-finals of the national ranking and reaching the quarter-finals of the WDSF Open.
In the Junior I Latin division, Valery Chung and Isabelle Lam advanced to the WDSF Open quarter-finals, with Valery moving on to the national ranking semi-finals, while Isabelle, alongside Anne Chai, reached the national quarter-finals.
In the Juvenile II category, Ooi She Le advanced to the semi-finals in Cha Cha, Rumba, and Jive, while Patricia Yap qualified for the semi-finals in the Juvenile I single dance events, and Sarah Tham reached the quarter-finals.
“The results are a pleasant surprise and a testament to the untapped DanceSport potential in Sarawak. With proper development, our athletes can reach even greater heights,” Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) president Chester Lim said.
Lim also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development for its steadfast support, adding that the SDA is planning to introduce more training and workshop programmes for both athletes and officials to further enhance their skills and competitiveness.
