KUCHING: The Dataran Ibu Pertiwi once again bore witness to the spirit of patriotism as the July edition of the Ibu Pertiwi Flag-Raising Ceremony, held in conjunction with Sarawak Day, was carried out in an orderly and dignified manner on Sunday morning.

The ceremony, held monthly by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), was officiated this time by Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, as part of efforts to foster patriotism and unity among the people of Sarawak.

As in previous editions, the giant Ibu Pertiwi flag, measuring 25 metres in length and 12.4 metres in width, was hoisted on a 99.4-metre high flagpole, standing as one of the iconic landmarks of Kuching city.

The ceremony began with an inspection of the DBKU Guard of Honour, followed by the singing of Sarawak’s state anthem, Ibu Pertiwiku, and a special performance.

Adding colour to the event, a themed performance celebrating Sarawak Day was presented by local group, Tini Tyrani, showcasing the state’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Since its inception in July 2024, the flag-raising ceremony has become a monthly event held on the first Sunday of each month and is open to the public.

The inaugural ceremony, officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on July 28 last year, underscored the symbolic significance of the event in shaping Sarawakian identity and national pride.

For the record, this Sarawak Day-themed edition also saw DBKU collaborating with the Ministry of Transport to further enliven the celebration through the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony.
