PUTRAJAYA: A Sarawak delegation led by Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel paid a courtesy call on Ministry of Education (MoE) secretary general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim to discuss key education matters affecting the state.

The meeting centred on issues arising from the previous Technical Committee meeting under the Action Council for the Implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPMA63), particularly Sarawak’s education autonomy and the implementation of the Dual Language Programme (DLP).

The discussion reflects the continued commitment of both the Sarawak and federal governments in strengthening collaboration to advance educational development in Sarawak, in line with the spirit of MA63.

Muhammad Abdullah emphasised that improving students’ English proficiency remains a priority, especially in preparing them to navigate rapid technological advancements and future workforce demands.

He said the state’s aspirations for education must be aligned with the existing national education framework to ensure policy coherence while addressing Sarawak’s unique needs.

“The enhancement of English language proficiency is crucial in equipping our students with the skills necessary to compete in a technology-driven global environment,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

Muhammad Abdullah said the state government remains committed to working closely with the federal government to ensure that educational policies implemented in the state benefit students, strengthen institutional capacity and support long-term socio-economic development.

Also present during the visit were permanent secretary to the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Adana Jed, Senior State Counsel Dr Jady@Zaidi Hassim, head of Education Division Donald Henry and legal officer Azreen Fasya Mohamad Abu Bakar.
