THE Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development is making steady progress in developing the Sarawak Innovation Index (SARii).

Its Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said his ministry aims to develop a comprehensive index framework that aligns with both the Malaysia Innovation Index (MII) and the Global Innovation Index (GII).

“This strategic alignment will allow SARii to clearly demonstrate Sarawak’s performance across key innovation indicators, enabling us to benchmark our progress against other countries in Southeast Asia, Asia and globally,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 26).

Sagah added his ministry has engaged in crucial discussions with various stakeholders, including private sector leaders, federal agencies like Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

“It is important to highlight that MIGHT, as the federal agency entrusted with developing the Malaysia Innovation Index (MII) and possessing extensive experience in developing innovation indices, has offered to provide professional assistance for SARii’s development.

“We have received their proposal, and my Ministry is currently studying it,” he said.
