KUCHING: Sarawak is set to make history with a 1,706.7km drone journey from Tanjung Datu to Lawas, which will be recognised by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
The official GWR announcement will be unveiled during the Countdown 2026 celebrations, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, at the Kuching Waterfront on Dec 31, placing Sarawak on the global stage ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the achievement goes beyond setting a world record.
“It reflects Sarawak’s readiness to lead with bold ideas, innovation and confidence as we step into 2026.
“Announcing this GWR on New Year’s Eve is a strong signal of the momentum Sarawak is building as we prepare to welcome global travellers.”
The record-setting drone journey will traverse Sarawak’s major landmarks and diverse landscapes.
Beyond its technological significance, the initiative symbolises Sarawak’s drive to lead through innovation and forward-looking ideas, strengthening its narrative as a connected and future-ready destination.
GWR, recognised internationally as the definitive authority on record-breaking achievements, provides independent verification and global credibility.
Securing a GWR title will place Sarawak among an international community of record-holders, reinforcing its global standing while marking a moment of collective pride for Sarawakians.
The New Year’s Eve celebration will feature a curated line-up of local, national and international performances, culminating in a midnight musical fireworks display to welcome 2026.
