Sarawak Energy holds plogging event

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy through the Sapphire Young Professional Network, its corporate network for young executives, organised a plogging event called ‘Sapphire Grin & Green 2023 for staff last weekend.

The event was organised as part of the commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability and in collaboration with the Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM).

Approximately 200 participants comprising Sarawak Energy employees and scholars participated in the event, showcasing their dedication towards a more sustainable lifestyle and keeping Kuching city clean.

“The event was held at the BCM and the Kuching Waterfront as part of Sarawak Energy’s healthy living initiative under its Employee Wellbeing Programme.

“Plogging combines jogging and walking with litter collection, serving as a platform to foster environmental awareness and community engagement, while also encouraging fitness and an active lifestyle,” it said in a statement today.

Sarawak Energy vice president for Corporate Shared Services (CSS), Peing Tajang officiated at the occasion with Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) deputy director of Community Services, Rudzaimeir Malek.

In her opening remarks, Peing said that Sarawak Energy was a part of the community and as such, all employees could play a role in keeping the environment healthier and cleaner through corporate activities such as the plogging event as well as through individual responsibility.

The event was supported by DBKU, Sarawak Museum Department, I-Cycle Malaysia, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Volunteers Department of Padawan District and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Stampin Branch.
