Sarawak enters global esports arena with Afiq Fadhli elected to the IESF

KUCHING: Sarawak marked a historic breakthrough in global esports as Afiq Fadhli Narawi was elected as the state’s first-ever representative to the International Esports Federation (IESF).

Afiq, who also serves president of the Sarawak Esports Association (SESA), said being elected was both a personal milestone and a proud moment for Sarawak and the nation.

He said the role would allow him to further strengthen governance, drive commercial growth, and ensure inclusivity across all levels of the esports community.

“I am deeply honoured to be elected as the first representative from Sarawak in the International Esports Federation.

“This reflects not only my journey but also Sarawak’s growing presence in the global esports arena,” he said in a statement issued recently.

He added that esports today is more than just high-level competition, describing it as a vibrant platform for innovation, teamwork and cultural exchange.

With the IESF comprising members from across the world, Afiq said he looked forward to collaborating with international partners to create opportunities for players, organisers and fans alike.

As part of his mandate, Afiq aims to help advance standards that ensure fair play, sustainability and responsible development in the industry.

“For Sarawak, this appointment opens the door to greater recognition on the international esports stage. I am committed to supporting local talent, developing grassroots esports programmes, and building pathways for our youth to participate in global competitions,” he said.

Afiq who is the deputy president of Malaysia Esports Federation noted that strategic partnerships, education initiatives, and innovation-driven projects will be key pillars in positioning Sarawak as a regional esports hub for Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

He added that with the esports ecosystem growing rapidly, it is crucial for Sarawak to ensure its youth and grassroots communities have proper guidance, platforms and exposure.

“Together, we will build a stronger, more vibrant future for esports, and I am excited to play a part in shaping this dynamic industry for the next generation,” he said.
