KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is intensifying its efforts to bridge the information gap on state-sponsored education opportunities through its 2025 State Education Initiatives, with a targeted outreach campaign to higher learning institutions across the state.
Tupong assemblyman and chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said the initiative is part of the state’s ongoing roadshow aimed at engaging with the community, particularly students, about educational policies and opportunities under the Sarawak Government.
“This is our second branch of outreach – we’ve gone to villages to explain government initiatives, and now we’re focusing on public higher learning institutions (IPTA) and private higher learning institutions (IPTS) students to ensure they understand and can benefit from what’s being offered.
“More importantly, we want students to share this information with their families and younger siblings so they too can seize these opportunities,” he said.
He said this in a press conference after officiating the Sarawak State Education Initiatives 2025 at i-CATS University College here today.
Fazzrudin stressed that the education-focused outreach aligns with the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s commitment to human capital development as a core pillar of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“The Premier has made it clear that education is critical to achieving our PCDS 2030 goals. Our role is to support that mission by delivering the information directly to the people,” he added.
Following the session at ICATS, he said the roadshow will continue to other higher learning institutions, including Sarawak Polytechnic Kuching, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Malaysia in Miri, and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in Sibu.
Fazzrudin noted that while current engagements focus on tertiary institutions, the state is exploring other platforms to reach secondary school students in the future, depending on the nature of upcoming education initiatives.
“We also assist the Premier in delivering announcements on initiatives like Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS).
“Many are unaware how to apply, so we go to the ground to guide them. Each outreach depends on what has been announced,” he said.
The Sarawak State Education Initiative 2025 is designed not only to inform but also a key effort by the state government to uplift and empower local students through inclusive and strategic education programmes.
The programme brought together core agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Yayasan Sarawak, the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Public Service Commission (SPA) and SCOPE Sarawak (GETS).
