KUCHING: Sarawak is looking to strengthen and expand its semiconductor and green hydrogen industries as part of its efforts to drive economic growth and innovation.

This follows a productive meeting yesterday in Paris, France, between a state delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Ardian, a renowned global private investment house.

The high-level meeting in Paris brought together Ardian’s teams from Hy24 and its semiconductor division, with discussions to advance Sarawak’s semiconductor industry and green hydrogen initiatives.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted Sarawak’s strengths in renewable energy, especially its potential 20GW hydroelectric capacity, and its growing semiconductor industry, supported by state programs and partnerships like the one with CSA Catapult in the United Kingdom.

“Ardian’s expertise in scaling semiconductor ventures and clean hydrogen infrastructure aligns with Sarawak’s vision to build a diversified, high-value industrial base,” said Awang Tengah.

“We see clear opportunities for investment, technology transfer, and ecosystem development that will accelerate our industrial transformation.”

Key outcomes from the meeting include Ardian’s plan to study Sarawak’s semiconductor and green hydrogen projects more closely, and its interest in finding local companies to invest in through future talks with InvestSarawak.

Both parties also discussed the downstream ecosystem and other opportunities for Sarawak small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
