KUCHING: Sarawak’s lawn bowls squad is eyeing four gold medals when they compete in the upcoming Borneo Games Kuching 2025, which runs from Sept 24 to 28.

Team manager Nurul Asma Sani said the 12-member squad comprises a mix of seasoned and young athletes, with seven players from the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 squad and five who previously represented Sarawak at SUKMA.

The squad is guided by two experienced coaches, namely Saiful Adli Sami for the men’s team and Nur Fithri Yaani Hamdin for the women’s team.

“Our athletes are ready to compete in this event. Our goal is to win at least four gold medals,” Asma said when met during the team’s final training session at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Centre, Petra Jaya earlier today (Sept 23).

She added the targeted golds are expected in the men’s pairs, men’s triples, women’s triples, and women’s fours events.

While confident in her team’s abilities, Asma acknowledged that pressure will be high, particularly from neighboring teams Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

“What is important is that our players remain focused and deliver their best performance in every match,” she added.

The lawn bowls championship will take place from Sept 25 to 27 at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Centre.
