HAINAN: Sarawak is eyeing greater participation in the global space economy and digital infrastructure development following a high-level mission to Hainan, China, led by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
In what is seen as a strategic move to position Sarawak within the global space economy, the delegation held discussions with top officials from the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and Wenchang International Aerospace City.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, key topics included satellite development, talent exchange in space engineering, ground station infrastructure, and joint research initiatives.
The visit included a tour of the Wenchang Satellite Launch Centre, where the delegation was briefed on China’s long-term vision for space advancement.
The direct engagement offered Sarawak valuable insight into China’s integrated space infrastructure and its future development roadmap.
Beyond aerospace, Sarawak also explored collaboration in digital infrastructure during a key meeting in Haikou with senior leaders from the Hainan Provincial Government.
The dialogue, led by Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office Jiang Xiongbiao, focused on data centre development, fibre optic connectivity, and space-related technology.
Both parties expressed strong interest in fostering institutional and technical cooperation, with the aim of driving sustainable and innovation-led development.
