KUCHING: Sarawak will field an 18-player squad at the PETRONAS National Under-18 Championships 2026 (First Leg), set to take place in Kuala Lumpur from April 22 to 27.

The tournament will be held at Dewan Persatuan Badminton Selangor and is expected to draw around 400 players from across the country.

Sarawak’s campaign will be led by Genevie Lim and Wafa Shahmina Rahmah, who finished as runners-up in the women’s doubles event at the PETRONAS National Under-21 Championships 2026 last January.

The pair’s showing at a higher age level adds momentum heading into the Under-18 competition.

Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, said the meet will serve as an important platform for player development.

“Competing at national level gives our players the opportunity to test themselves and gain valuable match experience. It is part of our effort to build confidence and develop our players for the future,” he said.

Wan Khalik added that sending 18 shuttlers to the tournament is to motivate players while giving them exposure to competitive play.
