KELANTAN: The Sarawak Government, through the Sarawak Islamic Education Bureau, has contributed RM1 million for the construction of a male student hostel at the PERKIM Islamic Da’wah Institute (IDIP).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the fund was part of a joint effort to provide proper infrastructure for the institute, which was located in Kelantan.

“We already have a good hostel for female students and now we aim to develop a new and safe hostel for male students.

“For this, we will redevelop the hostel under PERKIM Kelantan, and the Sarawak Islamic Education Bureau is contributing RM1 million,” he said.

He said this during a press conference following the 29th IDIP Certificate presentation ceremony at the Dewan Kompleks Islam Jubli Perak (KIJP), Sultan Ismail Petra, Panji here today.

Abang Johari, who is also the president of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM), added that education was the fundamental basis for developing the ummah, especially in nurturing a knowledgeable generation with a universal Islamic approach.

“Da’wah work is voluntary and the spirit of volunteerism is crucial in developing our society, especially within Islam. This approach is universal. What is important is to develop Islamic character so that the mind also becomes universal,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also allocated a donation of RM20,000 to PERKIM Kelantan.
