KUCHING: Sarawak’s men’s futsal squad has delivered an encouraging performance ahead of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 after securing bronze at the Johor Cup Invitational Futsal Championship recently.
The Sarawak side finished third in the five-day tournament held at the Sports Hub Indoor Stadium in Kluang, Johor from Apr 17 to 21.
Competing in a single round-robin format, Sarawak recorded two wins, two draws and one defeat across five matches.

Sarawak opened their campaign with a 4-4 draw against eventual runners-up Sabah before drawing 1-1 with Pahang.
The squad later fell 4-1 to Kuala Lumpur but bounced back strongly with a 9-4 win over Negeri Sembilan and a 5-2 victory against hosts Johor, who emerged champions.
Head coach Mohamad Faizal Zamri described the bronze-medal finish as a positive benchmark for the team, especially with most players aged between 18 and 19.
“This is a very encouraging achievement for a young squad.
“Most of our players are only 18 and 19 years old, but they were able to give strong competition against more experienced teams”,he said when contacted recently.
Faizal added that the performance showed the team’s potential to challenge for a top-three finish at SUKMA 2026 in Selangor.
