GAS distribution operators in Sarawak can be fined up to RM20 million if they are found to be operating without a valid licence under the state law.
Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, said offenders may also face penalties of up to ten times that amount for repeat offences under Section 21A of the Distribution of Gas Ordinance (DGO) 2016.
“Since the amendment of the DGO in 2023, my ministry has issued 14 upstream and 537 downstream licences to industry players in Sarawak.

“Additionally, ten non-compliance notices were served to entities found distributing gas without licences,” he told the august House on Thursday.
He was responding to a question from Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
The licensing framework, under Section 7 of the DGO 2016, covers activities such as gas import, regasification, processing, transportation, supply and retail.
Ibrahim said it also includes the construction or maintenance of pipelines and distribution-related infrastructure.
