KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) master plan is now in its final stage, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said that a minor adjustment would be made to the existing plan, which had already been presented to Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during a Special Sarawak State Development Meeting held here yesterday.

“More or less (it’s what we presented to the Prime Minister).

“There is a slight adjustment, taking into account the current circumstances, but not much needs to be changed as it is already more or less a concrete plan,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the ‘Program Santuni Desa’ organised by the Federal Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang, with the community in Sarawak 2025, held at Dewan Suarah Kota Samarahan today.

When asked whether the Federal Government would provide funds for the implementation of the project, Abang Johari said the matter was not discussed.

“We have our own capital.

“If the Federal Government wishes to assist us, we would welcome it with an open heart, but our planning is based on the resources we already have,” he added.

The project includes proposals to develop a deep-sea port and the new airport at Tanjung Embang.

“We are developing two major projects – the deep sea port, which will be constructed around eight kilometre offshore, and another one at Tanjung Embang – the airport.

“That means both a deep sea port and an airport. This will have a significant impact on this area, particularly Samarahan, Asajaya and the entire coastal region,” he said.

He emphasised that Anwar acknowledged Sarawak is on the right track in its development, particularly in terms of road infrastructure, water supply and electricity while SGR would have a major impact on the state’s economy over the next five years.

“He (Anwar) also told me that when we have the funds, we should channel them back to benefit the people,” he said.
