KUCHING: Preparations for the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration are underway, with a steering committee meeting and site visit held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (Aug 3).

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also the minister responsible for the celebration, co-chaired the meeting.

According to the Information Department (JaPen), the meeting focused on coordinating logistics, protocol, security, event management and cooperation between federal ministries, agencies and the Sarawak government to ensure the smooth organisation of the Sept 16 celebration.

The delegation also toured BCCK to inspect preparations and facilities that will be used during the national-level event.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, JaPen director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, and representatives of the relevant federal and state agencies.

Under the annual rotation, the 2026 National Day celebration will be held at Dataran Putrajaya, while the national-level Malaysia Day celebration will take place at BCCK.

The official logo and theme for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations were unveiled on June 26, followed by the launch of the official theme song, Aku Berjanji, performed by Faizal Tahir, on July 19.
