KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) has recorded its first Muslim organ donor, following an organ procurement procedure carried out on September 15.

The hospital said the donation was made possible after the donor’s family consented to the procedure, allowing the organs to be donated to patients in need.

“In the midst of immense grief, the donor’s family showed remarkable strength, compassion and understanding by choosing to give hope and the gift of life to others,” it said in a Facebook post.

SGH said its Organ Procurement Unit (UPOH) guided the family throughout the process together with the National Transplant Resource Centre.

The teams also ensured that the organ donation process was carried out with dignity and sensitivity, while respecting the family’s religious beliefs.

A multidisciplinary team from the hospital was involved in the organ procurement procedure.
