KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak has become the first state in Malaysia to implement the E-Pineapple system, further proving that the state is ready to face the challenges of digital transformation.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom said the digital transformation would be focused on the agri-food sector, in line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy.
“Our ministry is also working hard to introduce digitalisation across every industry.
“By using big data and analytics, we will be able to make better and more efficient decisions, from land management to pineapple product processing,” he said.
His speech was read out by the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Sirai Daha during the launch of the Customer Engagement Day and Presentation of Incentive Aid for the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) Sarawak Projects at Dewan Pertubuhan Peladang Sarawak on Thursday (Jul 24).

Rundi added that researchers and educators play a crucial role in providing the necessary data and knowledge to ensure that every decision is based on the latest evidence and innovation.
“With this system, project administration will be more efficient, farmer and production data can be collected directly, and project monitoring can be carried out transparently and swiftly.
“I believe the use of this system will serve as an excellent example for other states,” he added.
Earlier in his speech, LPNM Sarawak director general Mohd Khairuzamri M. Saleh said through the E-Pineapple system, every application can be done through online, without having to go to the LPNM office.
Meanwhile, on the engagement programme, Rundi said the presence of researchers, educators, farmers, and pineapple product developers is vital in advancing the industry.
“Collaboration between the public and private sectors, researchers and entrepreneurs, is a key step towards achieving success together.
“This engagement programme gives us an opportunity to discuss, collaborate, and plan strategic steps for the future of the national pineapple industry.
“I want to emphasise that all of you are our clients in the government sector. Platforms such as this provide a space for you to share your views and realistic ideas that reflect your aspirations.
“With the support and cooperation of all parties, I am confident we can elevate this industry to greater heights, not just in terms of production and marketing, but also in developing more competitive and value-added downstream products,” he said.
