KUCHING: The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF), together with several enforcement agencies, carried out 10 raids under Ops Hazard 3.0 at multiple locations across Sarawak on Monday, with total seizures amounting to RM1.82 million.

Sarawak Brigade Commander, SAC Lim Bak Phai, said the raids were conducted in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“The operations led to the detention of 12 individuals, including two foreigners, suspected of engaging in the collection and processing of e-waste without complying with licensing requirements and legal provisions.

“The seizures included various e-waste components such as electrical wires and cables, electronic parts, used batteries, tyres, as well as processing equipment, in addition to vehicles and containers believed to have been used for the activities,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Lim said the operations were conducted to curb illegal e-waste management activities that could potentially harm the environment and public safety.

“Firm action will be taken against any parties involved in such unlawful activities. All detainees and seized items have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further action in accordance with their respective jurisdictions.

“The Sarawak GOF brigade will continue to carry out operations through strategic cooperation with the relevant departments and agencies,” he said.

The operations also involved the Department of Environment, Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, Natural Resources and Environment Board, Sri Aman District Council, Sibu local authorities, Bintulu Development Authority, and Miri City Council. – BERNAMA
