KUCHING: The Sarawak government has taken strategic measures to coordinate public relations (PR) functions across all ministries, departments, and state agencies, ensuring that government policies and initiatives are communicated consistently and effectively.

Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee said the move comes through the organisation of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Coordination Committee Meeting, which aims to align the roles of each PRO in promoting new policies and initiatives launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The meeting which took place on Tuesday (Jan 27) involved 37 stakeholders from across the Sarawak government.

“The cooperation of all parties must be enhanced to publicise activities and policies under their respective ministries, departments, and agencies so that information reaches all levels of society,” he said as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

Hii, who also serves as committee chairman, shared that the terms of reference (ToR) for the PRO Coordination Committee, approved by State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki on Oct 8 last year, will help strengthen PR functions and reduce reliance on the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) for publicity purposes.

He said all agencies should adopt a strategic approach to increase public awareness, whether through collaborations with UKAS or Television Sarawak (TVS), website postings, roadshows, or other methods, so the people of Sarawak are fully informed of government direction.

In the meeting, UKAS director and committee secretary Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan noted that 139 new initiatives launched by the Premier require active publicity efforts from all parties.

Discussions also covered the submission of launch video materials, official ceremony gimmicks and slides, reporting formats for proposed programmes in 2026, the ‘Talikhidmat’ report, and guidelines for billboards, digital signage, live broadcasts, and video montage services under UKAS supervision.

Also present were the Premier’s press secretary Datuk Ambrose Cheng Loi Hee, departmental heads, and representatives from other ministries, departments, and agencies involved.
