KUCHING: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi will attend the closing ceremony of the 64th Sarawak-level Majlis Tilawah and Menghafaz Al-Quran competition on Feb 27.
The invitation was extended by a delegation from the Sarawak Islamic Council during a courtesy visit to the Astana Negeri Sarawak today (Feb 19).
The delegation was led by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

According to Abdul Karim, the event is scheduled to take place from Feb 24 to 27 at Dewan Suarah Samarahan.
“Alhamdulillah, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi will be attending the closing ceremony on the 27th.
“The opening ceremony, which will be held on the 24th, will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said when speaking to reporters after the visit.
He added that the competition will feature Qari and Qariah representing divisions across Sarawak, encouraging broad participation in the annual religious event.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim also commented on the anticipated increase in land value surrounding the new airport project in Tanjung Embang.
He noted that infrastructure developments, such as airports, often lead to significant rises in land prices, urging landowners to be prudent with their sales.
“Land in the area is currently being sold for RM10,000 to RM20,000 per acre. Some individuals may be tempted to sell when offered double that price, but once infrastructure is developed, the value could increase by 20 to 30 times.
“We encourage landowners not to rush into selling for quick gains, as they could benefit significantly in the future.”
